Ingredients/Variations

Powdered Sugar – Also called confectioner’s sugar. Makes the best icing and works to thicken the glaze. If you want a thicker consistency add more powdered sugar!

Milk – Works to thin out the glaze, add more if you want it thinner!

Vanilla (optional) – You could use vanilla to give it extra flavor but know that it will discolor the glaze so it will be a duller off white instead of bright white. You could also use other extracts like almond, lemon, or even coffee to give a unique flavor!

Tools You’ll Need

Step-by-Step Instructions (with Photos)

Add the milk and powdered sugar to a stand mixer
Add 2 tbsp milk and 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar to a stand mixer or a mixing bowl if using a electric hand mixer. Make sure to spoon the powdered sugar into the measuring cup to avoid the sugar being too packed.

Mix together on high speed
Mix until combined, add more powdered sugar or milk to obtain the desired consistency. Avoid over-mixing as this can lead to air bubbles which dry out your icing and leads to cracking.

Add to a piping bag or plastic bag to pipe the dessert
Scrape the glaze into a piping bag or plastic ziploc type bag to pipe the dessert. If using a ziploc type bag, after the icing is in the bag you seal the bag and cut a small corner off with a scissors. If you just want to drizzle it with a spoon you can do that instead.

Time to drizzle it
Drizzle the glaze over your dessert, I find it’s easiest to start in a corner and do long strokes diagonally across the dessert. Once completed, enjoy your beautiful dessert!
